View at EarthSky Community Photos. | Joel Weatherly caught the moon and Mars on December 7, 2022, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. See Mars in in regards to the 1 o’clock place? Joel wrote: “Mars and the moon are a surprising pair in our skies tonight. Whereas at opposition, good Mars met the full moon for a lunar occultation of Mars. A video of Mars’ disappearance and reappearance, as seen by my telescope, can be found here.” Thanks, Joel!

Moon and Mars pictures

On December 7, 2022, our planet Earth handed between Mars and the sun, bringing Mars to its once-in-two-years opposition in our sky. Mars was at its closest and brightest for this two-year interval, and it was reverse the sun. A full moon can be reverse the sun. So, on December 7, the sun, the Earth, the moon and Mars have been aligned. And the alignment was so exact that – as seen from some components of Earth – the moon handed in entrance of Mars! He wrote: “The moon passing the planet Mars from 9:44 p.m. to 11:44 p.m. EST. At my latitude of 32 N alongside the SE coast of Georgia, the moon by no means occulted Mars however the moon handed very close to it. It’d seem that Mars was passing the moon, however surely, it was the moon transferring previous Mars. I took these photos utilizing the Orion EON 130mm telescope with the ZWO-ASI 071 digicam utilizing the Orion Sky-Glow Flight air pollution filter.” Thanks, Patrick!
