Legendary Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second individual to set foot on the Moon, mentioned he had married his longtime girlfriend on Friday, his 93rd birthday.

Aldrin and Anca Faur, government vice chairman of Buzz Aldrin Ventures, have been wed in a personal ceremony.

“On my 93rd birthday… I’m happy to announce that my longtime love Dr. Anca Faur & I’ve tied the knot,” Aldrin tweeted together with photos of himself and Faur, who’s reportedly 63.

“We have been joined in holy matrimony in a small non-public ceremony in Los Angeles & are as excited as eloping youngsters.”

In line with her LinkedIn profile, Faur earned a doctorate in chemical engineering from the College of Pittsburgh in 1996 and had beforehand labored for Union Carbide and Johnson Matthey earlier than becoming a member of Buzz Aldrin Ventures. She had additionally served as treasurer for the California Hydrogen Enterprise Council.

Aldrin’s three earlier marriages resulted in divorce.

The US astronaut is the final surviving member of the Apollo 11 mission, throughout which he and Neil Armstrong change into the primary individuals to set foot on the Moon, on July 20, 1969.

Michael Collins, who piloted the command module whereas his crewmates walked on the lunar surface, died in April 2021 and Armstrong died in 2012.

Since retiring from NASA in 1971, Aldrin has remained a powerful advocate of space exploration.

A crater on the Moon close to the Apollo 11 landing site is called in his honor.
