ESA successfully unfurls sail to drag spacecraft out of orbit

The European House Company (ESA) has efficiently unfurled a sail aboard a used cubesat to assist drag the spacecraft down into Earth’s environment and out of orbit.

The Drag Augmentation Deorbiting System (ADEO) was deployed from an orbiting Ion satellite service in late December 2022. The sail will assist catch extra of Earth’s tenuous higher environment, permitting the cubesat to return down in a matter of months slightly than the years it could in any other case take, ESA officers mentioned.
