European-Japanese climate research satellite launched from California aboard SpaceX rocket

A European-Japanese local weather analysis satellite designed to review Earth’s temperature balance was launched into orbit from California on Tuesday.

The EarthCARE satellite lifted off from coastal Vandenberg Area Drive Base atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at 3:20 p.m. The satellite was efficiently deployed about 10 minutes later, SpaceX mentioned on the launch webcast.

The identify EarthCARE is brief for Earth Cloud Aerosol and Radiation Explorer.

The satellite is provided with 4 devices to review the position of clouds and aerosols—particles suspended within the environment—in reflecting solar radiation again into space and trapping infrared radiation emitted from Earth’s floor.

The analysis is a cooperative venture between the European Area Company and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Company.

After stage separation, the reusable Falcon 9 first stage booster landed again at Vandenberg, finishing its seventh flight.
