A newly launched picture of Mars exhibits an icy scene, with ribbons of purple and white dancing throughout a frosty panorama close to the planet’s south pole.

Whereas the snowy scene might evoke the sensation of a “winter wonderland” on the Red Planet, it was truly captured by the European Area Company’s Mars Express orbiter on Could 19. Because of this the frigid picture truly represents spring within the Martian southern hemisphere and the Martian ice was starting to recede.
