Massive eruption from icy volcanic comet detected in solar system

A weird, volcanic comet has violently erupted, spewing out greater than 1 million tons of fuel, ice and the “potential constructing blocks of life” into the solar system. 

The unstable comet, generally known as 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann (29P), is round 37 miles (60 kilometers) large and takes round 14.9 years to orbit the sun. 29P is believed to be essentially the most volcanically energetic comet within the solar system. It’s certainly one of round 100 comets, generally known as “centaurs,” which were pushed from the Kuiper Belt — a hoop of icy comets that lurk past Neptune — into a more in-depth orbit across the sun between these of Jupiter and Neptune, in response to NASA (opens in new tab).
