A daring workforce of scientists has endured the inhospitable situations of the icy desert of Antarctica to recuperate 5 new meteorites, together with a near-17-pound monster space rock.

The workforce of scientists included Area Museum and the College of Chicago researcher Maria Valdes, who estimated that of the 45,000 meteorites recovered so far from the icy wasteland of Antarctica, solely 100 or so have been as massive as the most important member of this new haul, which weighs 16.7 kilos (7.6 kilograms).
