Mercury’s speedy movement by the evening sky is captured on this composite, capturing the closest planet to the Solar over Bursa, Turkey, at daybreak from Sept. 14 to Oct. 6, 2023. (Click on for the full-resolution picture and a clearer view.) Mercury’s movement is from left to proper, getting increased within the sky and brighter as its phase waxes. It peaked within the sky Sept. 23, 2023, at greatest elongation. The imager used a Canon DSLR to take ½-second exposures at ISO 400 by a 50mm lens at f/3.2.
