NASA scientists are making ready to color probably the most detailed image to this point of the ambiance of Venus when the aptly named DAVINCI — or Deep Environment Venus Investigation of Noble Gases, Chemistry, and Imaging — mission drops a probe to the planet’s floor.

When the 3-foot-wide (0.9 meters) descent sphere of the DAVINCI mission takes its one-way parachute journey to Venus‘ floor within the early 2030s, it is going to be carrying the VASI (Venus Atmospheric Construction Investigation) instrument together with 5 different devices. VASI will accumulate information concerning the temperature, stress and winds of Venus’ atmosphere because it makes its hellish descent and enters the planet’s crushing decrease ambiance.
