Scientists got mysterious reflections from the south pole of Mars. Scientists thought that it's liquid water.
In 2018, from the data of ESA's Mars Express Orbiter they announced that they got signal, a strange bright reflection, came from the Mars south pole
That strange signal is from south pole in region known as Ultima Scopuli. Now scientists suggest that this reflection didn't came from liquid water.
This reflection might be came from underlying geological layers of minerals and frozen carbon dioxide.
Research team used radar data from MARSIS mission, along with computer simulations, to study this mystery.
To study layers of ice and minerals that formed after past volcanic eruptions on Mars also want to see how these materials would react to incoming light.
After this all, Scientists expected it was a lake or liquid water under the ice, but it may just be a mirage.
New research does not said that, there is no possibility of liquid water existing somewhere on Mars.
But under the ice, possibility of life and water may be present anywhere.
