There was one thing acquainted concerning the hat NASA commentator Derrol Nail wore as he stood on the deck of the united statesPortland and described the scene on Sunday (Dec. 11) as NASA’s Orion spacecraft splashed down from the moon. Not by chance, Nail’s blue ballcap evoked images of Apollo astronauts (opens in new tab) as they arrived aboard their very own restoration ships 50 years in the past.

Nail’s hat was made to be half classic reproduction, half fashionable style design. On its entrance panel, the cap was embroidered with “USS Portland” and the title of the NASA mission being recovered, “Artemis I.” (opens in new tab) The panel was comparable in fashion to these on the caps that had been obtainable on board the U.S. Navy ships that recovered the Apollo crews.
